I had had a wonderful, easy, pregnancy. But at 39 weeks, our little peanut decided she wanted to throw a little excitement into the mix. On labor day I could tell that her movements were becoming jerky and erratic, almost painful, which wasn't typical of her. I waited it out a day, then finally on Wednesday, September 5th I decided to leave work early and head to the hospital to have a non-stress test performed. I figured that I had just scared myself, and that they would be sending me home an hour later to get some rest. Boy, was I wrong! Luckily, Mark left work as well and met me there on his lunch break.
The minute they hooked me up to the heart rate machine they could tell that her heart rate was irregular. The irregularities could have come from several things, but it seemed to the on call doctor, Dr. Star, that she was in distress. He decided that we needed to deliver her right away via C-section. So.... at 4:35, after being monitored for 2 hours, I headed back to surgery with my husband at my side- scared sh*tless. What a whirlwind of emotions! Is she going to be ok? Will she even cry? Is she going to be really tiny?
| Welcome to the world Lidia Kate! |
She was a tiny one! Weighing in at a whopping 5 lbs. 6 oz, 18 1/2 in. long! During the surgery, Dr. Star was able to determine 2 causes of little Lidia being in distress. #1- her placenta was deteriorating #2- she had knotted her umbilical cord several times, hence the erratic heart rate. The minute Dr. Star removed her from my belly, he asked, "Stephanie, were you a gymnast?" I told him yeah, how could he possibly have known that? "Well, I think your daughter is going to follow in your footsteps. She has been doing so many flips in here that she has knotted her cord time and time again." That's my girl. Already a little gymnast in the making. :)
It was an extremely emotional day, and it has taken me a while to comfortably talk about it. Unfortunately, I think I will be much more cautious during my next pregnancies because I won't want to overlook anything. Luckily, we got to the hospital in time to safely get little Lidia out. She was ready to see this fine world and meet her awesome mommy and daddy. She is an amazing addition to our family and we are lucky to have her.
